The Notification Service helps InfraBeacon tell the right people when a monitor needs attention. You can send alerts by email, to a team integration, or both.
Use it when you want uptime, server, and regression monitor alerts to go to a team instead of only one person.
What notifications are used for
InfraBeacon can send notifications for important monitor events, such as:
- A website or API goes down
- A website or API recovers
- A server stops reporting
- Server CPU, memory, disk, or network use passes your alert limits
- A regression monitor finds a visual change
- A domain or SSL certificate is close to expiring
Contact groups
Notifications are managed with contact groups. A contact group is a saved list of places to send alerts.
For example, you might create:
- Operations for your technical team
- Website team for people who look after your public site
- Client alerts for a customer or project owner
Each monitor can use a contact group. If you do not choose one, InfraBeacon uses your default contact group.
Delivery options
Each contact group has a delivery mode:
- Email sends alerts to the email addresses in the group.
- Integration sends alerts to the connected service, such as Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, or Telegram.
- Both sends alerts to email addresses and integrations in the same group.
Choose Both if you want important alerts to arrive in more than one place.
Creating a contact group
To create a contact group:
- Sign in to InfraBeacon.
- Open Contacts from your account dashboard.
- Enter a clear group name, such as "Operations".
- Choose the delivery mode.
- Add one or more email addresses if the group uses email.
- Select Create group.
After the group is created, you can edit it at any time.
Adding an integration
Integrations let InfraBeacon send alerts to the tools your team already watches.
Supported integrations are:
- Slack
- Discord
- Microsoft Teams
- Telegram
To add an integration:
- Open Contacts.
- Select Edit on the contact group.
- Choose the provider.
- Add a clear label, such as "Main alerts".
- Paste the webhook URL, or enter the Telegram bot details.
- Select Add integration.
- Use Send test notification to check that it works.
Webhook details are hidden after saving, so only a masked version is shown in the dashboard.
Choosing a contact group for a monitor
When you create or edit a monitor, look for the Contact group field in the notification or alert settings.
Choose the group that should receive alerts for that monitor. This helps keep alerts tidy. For example, server alerts can go to your operations team, while visual regression alerts can go to your website team.
Testing notifications
It is a good idea to send a test notification after you set up a new group or integration.
To test:
- Open Contacts.
- Edit the contact group.
- Select Send test notification.
- Check the email inbox or integration channel.
If the test does not arrive, check the email address, webhook URL, bot token, chat ID, and the contact group's delivery mode.
Keeping alerts useful
A few small habits can make notifications easier to manage:
- Use clear contact group names.
- Keep old email addresses and unused integrations removed.
- Send test notifications after making changes.
- Use monitor snoozing during planned maintenance.
- Send noisy monitors to a smaller group instead of everyone.
If notifications are not arriving
If an alert does not arrive, check these first:
- The monitor has alerts enabled.
- The monitor is assigned to the correct contact group.
- The contact group has at least one destination for its delivery mode.
- Email alerts are not in spam or blocked by a mail rule.
- The integration is enabled and the webhook or bot details are still valid.
- The monitor is not snoozed.
If everything looks right and notifications still are not arriving, contact support. Please include the monitor name, the contact group name, and the time you expected the notification.
